TOPIC: Website formatting and registration
#135
Website formatting and registration 1 Year, 5 Months ago
This week the website was updated with a new menu template and URL redirections recommended by Google. The redirections caused temporary loss of registration function, and the site updates may have temporarily caused some browsers to be unable to load the pages.

The site is now tested with Internet Explorer 7, Safari 3.2.1, Firefox 3.0.7, Konqueror 4.2.1, Opera 9.6.4, Avant 11.7, and Google Chrome 1.0.154. If you have any display issues, please let us know with the CONTACT US form

Hello from Australia and thank your for your contribution to NI Reaktor.

But I have to complain about the 'star-field' effect on these web-pages... it sends my CPU usage to 100% and hangs my browser (Firefox 3.5.6)

Is there a way to disable it, or better - remove it from your web-pages??

Regards,
Michael.

Sorry Michael, I find it difficult to believe it is a problem with the Website. It has been active for 18 months now, and of the many thousands of visitors you are the only one to state the starfield animation is a problem. What exactly makes you so sure that there is something of the starfield animation that is causing your CPU usage to peak?

It might or might not be the starfield animation that is my problem, it could be some other JavaScript in heavensonearth.com.

I use a Firefox add-on called "NoScript", to allow or deny JavaScript to load/run on selected web domains eg. heavensonearth.com
With it I can also temporarily allow/revoke (deny) JavaSript for each domain.

In this case when watching the performance graph in Windows Task Manager, I deny JavaScript from heavensonearth.com - CPU usage is normal.
When I allow JavaScript, CPU usage goes immediately to 100% and starfield animation runs!

It is not a problem if I deny JavaScript from heavensonearth.com as I can navigate to most pages. But certain things do no show eg. the 6-sep preview at the top of your welcome page.

Any advice?

That is very interesting. It's still possible it is not the animation JavaScript, but some JavaSctript for other functions on the site.

Perhaps we can identify whether the high CPU usage is software or hardware related in your case, which would define what exactly needs to be isolated to fix it. Please can you try the Website with a different browser? Please can you provide some information on your machine's video hardware? The script activity is entirely local, so it's not affected by network connection.
